with country music legend trace atkins outside charlottesville. both meet for another debate in new york in a week and a half. surprising unemployment report shows the jobless rate dropped. most economists expected it to rise. it went down from 8.1 to 7.8%. this is the first time in almost four years that the unemployment rate has fallen below 8%. the government says the rate fell because more people found work, a trend that could impact the presidential race. making headlines this morning, an alert for women in fairfax county. police are looking for a suspected serial fondler. >> he has approached at least five women, usually from behind and grabs them before taking off. fox5's sherri ly is live in springfield with more details. good morning. >> reporter: good morning, allison, good morning, tony. the number of cases here continues to grow. we he a fifth victim that's now come forward. this is a case that hadn't been reported until police went

public with information on these cases. that woman said she was fondled here in this springfield neighborhood last month. it is the same place that another woman said she was victimized just three days ago. police released a sketch of the suspect. he's described as a man in his 30s, dark eyes and a neatly trimmed beards. the victims say he approaches from behind, doesn't say anything when suddenly grabs and fondles them and runs away. he has victimized at least five women or teenage girls at three different locations in the springfield area. neighbors in these areas are alarmed and on the lookout. >> it's disgusting. i'd put a stop to it myself. and i've heard other people say that. >> whenever i go out, i certainly look around to see if i can see this guy. the police ask me to do that, i'm going to do that. >> reporter: the suspect seems to strike at random.

some have happened in the morning, midday, and at night. police believe given the number of cases, there may be even more victims still out there. that's the latest in springfield, back to you. >> sherri ly, thank you very much. a popular short cut to the metro station has become the site for muggings. the most recent occurred in daylight where victims were robbed of cash at gunpoint. councimembers are working to police to come up with solutions such as lighting and a paved bath. no bond for edward gonzalez, the man police say attacked an elderly man on the morning of september 15th. gonzalez is charged with attempted first degree murder and assault. allison, an american man is dead, killed by police after he opened fire inside a hotel in israel. police say the gunman in his

20s, shot and killed a chef at the hotel, with whom he had a personal dispute. developing this morning, health officials warn thousands more people could be at risk of getting a deadly and rare form of meningitis. it's claimed five lives, including victims in maryland and virginia. it stems from contaminated steroid shots. wisdom is back in studio with more. >> infection has spread to six states at this point, with 35 cases already reported. products made at compounding pharmacies contribute $3 billion a year to the drug industry and account for 3% of all prescriptio filled. now the u.s. government is taking firm action following the outbreak. >> we want to stay ahead of the

curve and make sure that we're proactive getting the word out. >> i've been safely giving epidural steroid injections for 22 years, and have never seen this or heard of anything like this. >> the company that makes the drug is trying to recall some 17,000 doses. officials say the outbreak could get bigger, with unknown vials reaching 23 different states. >> wisdom, any symptoms to look out for, and also, you've said this form of meningitis is deadly, so what do we need to look out for here is the bottom line? >> we know it attacks the lining of the brain and spinal cord. this strain is a fungal

the mayor of d.c. wants bars to stay open all night

before the holidays and the test of the new policy comes this monday for the columbus day. the d.c. alcoholic beverage regulation administration is letting 42 bars and restaurants stay open around the clock. they can serve alcohol until 4:00 in the morning. it's designed to raise $3 million in revenue. help is on the way for d.c. and prince george's county residents who want to become homeowners. a two-day workshop launches today at the convention center. more than a thousand potential home buyers are expected to attend to find out if they are eligible. the new program sponsored by wells fargo includes $7 million in assistance for d.c. and prince george's county. qualified home buyers will receive grants up to $20,000 to put towards the down payment. walk ins are welcome. helping children left orphaned by aids in africa is the goal of an event in d.c.

i usually ride the metro to work, but i have been driving to work. the daily traffic has taken some getting used to, but what i will never get used to and what is annoying me is no one in d.c. knows how to drive a traffic circle. surely i can't be the only one troubled by this. we are doing you, viewer, and hopefully everybody a favor. >> could you repeat that? >> this is a pain. you might know how to do it perfectly, but what about that visitor, new driver who tries no jump in here at full speed? >> forget the tourists. seems like every circle in washington is different. without local knowledge, you're up the creek without a paddle. i was looking at blogs from visitors who have endured our circles. one called them the circle of doom, the traffic circles in washington. >> it can be a pain. >> one said traffic circles are

always tricky, but in washington the planners found a way to make them trickier. >> are you going to call it a round about or a circle? >> i think we call them circles. it's ward circle -- >> this is chevy chase circle. what i always thought, and you can correct me or not, first of all, always yield to the traffic already in the circle, if you're at one of these streets trying to get in. is that correct? >> you must be a graduate student in circlology. >> right. >> that is the basic rule. >> true. >> if you remember that and you're sitting there, rule number one. rule mber two, the outer lane is for exiting. but chevy chase circle, a couple of lanes can exit, right? >> that's true. if you're in the outside lane and think you're going to go straight, you may have someone in the second lane that will cut in front of you. we see a lot of fender-benders because of that.

you're right. rule three i would say, expect the unexpected. >> yes. >> because people will do crazy things in circles. they realize where they're not where they need to be and they'll cut. we have a lot of tourists and that's before you get to the locals. >> the thing on this type of circle, too, you have to look at those lanes. if the lanes, the dotted lanes go this way, say there are three lanes, if you're in the middle, if my lane says i can exit, i can exit. that's what you got to know, 101, right? >> that's right. it gets more confusing. take a complex circle, like dupont. >> let's go to dupont, there we go. >> we have islands that separate the traffic. you may be in a traffic lane here and you really need to be in over there. of course, seems like everything exits on mass avenue. it is really tough. you have traffic lights added.

of course you've got separators separating traffic lanes. if you're in this lane, can't jump over to the other. >> which brings up a good point, lon, if you are in dupont circle and you know you can only go mass avenue, the signs are pretty good in dupont circle, but you have to follow the signs and look at the traffic lights, right? >> absolutely. i think even the most talented driver can get confused on dupont circle, regardless. you've got traffic, big trucks and add to that around dupont circle, a lot of tourists, pedestrians and bicyclists. >> which needs to be the next ask allison, if i'm a pedestrian and cyclist, sometimes they don't follow the rules of the road. they want to be in the road like a motorist, but you have to follow the same rules. >> right. you have to be watching out, because the light may be red, but that doesn't mean a

bicyclist or a pedestrian wouldn't be being through. >> one more. we have ward circle. you have a story about ward circle. this one is another one of those tricky ones, you've got to be in a certain lane. if you want to get off on nebraska, it's one thing. if you want to get off on mass, it's another thing. >> you can look at this ellipse inside the circle and recognize it will be a problem. i saw a blog, american university student new to the recently, and still trying to figure it out. >> he needs a grad degree in circlology. >> exactly right. realize you might make mistakes, be patient and realize that mistakes are correctable. what's not correctable is if you decide to make a sudden move. >> don't do it. >> that spoils the trip. >> the beauty of it, keep going around until you get to the right lane. that's the beauty of the

the cider comes from virginia. the apples it's as local as we can get it. >> reporter: i know eric, we were talking earlier about why this year is a big year for pumpkins. as a farmer, you know like every year it depends on the weather. >> exactly. >> reporter: this year is a pretty good year for the pumpkins. you got a couple here you pulled off the lot for us. tell us why this was a good year. >> like the planets were aligned just right. got off to a dry start in the growing season and never got wet. last year we had inches and inches of rain on the east coast and midwest in september, and into october. it caused the pumpkins to get soft. this year they're hard. they're healthy, because they grew on the dry side. pumpkins like drier weather. the best crop we've had in probably 10 years. >> reporter: which is good. last year you said it was the worst. >> worst crop since '79 i

i've had a few, but this one is jewel in the crown. >> i have to say, i've seen the footage of you receiving, accepting, and you seem truly touched by this. >> yeah, this comes from peers. other awards come from different areas, but this is the musicians, producers, music makers honoring one of their kind, and now i am one of their kind in the hall of fame. it's a great reflection on the work as well. it produces a great effect in new generations, turning onto my stuff. i like that. >> you know, not every -- a lot of the music from the sixties, and we mentioned a while ago that you contributed words to the beatles' yellow submarine, you were in that world, you and dylan and everybody else. why do you think so much of that music continues to live on? not all music does. this continues to live on with young people as well.

>> you could say we made music that meant the same thing to generations in the future. how could we know when we were 16 making songs and wondering whether our music would become a sound track to people's lives? it's extraordinary. my read on it is i've written so many songs about human conditions and situations and those situations, they never change over the years. we're going through the same thing now, every generation, young people grow up and grow up into their own way of looking at life, and the songs of donovan and the beatles, and dylan, continue to reflect that. i think that's what it is. >> i want to ask you about something that is near and dear to your heart, transcendental medication, finding that peace within, and also peace on the outside. >> i come from a generation who came up with folk music and rock music and the songs of

peace and brotherhood. a utopiaen idea. you can sing about it, march in the streets, protest. but surely it's something inside that has to begin. me and the beatles went to india, mike love of the beach boys was there, we were searching what is it these books of meditation speak about? that there is a place to be found inside. we brought back the tm from india and now it's being presented in schools. it's stress that produces suffering and so the kids in school today really are in trouble. so this tm works and the stress can be reduced. it's not a religion or cult, but a technique to reduce stress. that's what it is all about and still the same. >> i want to mention donovan will be performing tomorrow night at hamilton live, 8:30. doors open at 7:00. there's the information.
